About the Film

When the world is struck by a global pandemic, the Canadian stand-up comedy industry is forever changed. With clubs and theatres across the country struggling to keep their doors open, and thousands of comedians out of work, how will stand-up comedy survive these unprecedented times?

Canadian filmmakers Scott Rawson Brown and Jean-François Frenette team up for their first feature film to bring you “Comedy-19: The Last Laugh”. The film features an amazing cast of Canada’s top comedic performers, club owners, and promoters.

This somber, yet hilarious documentary dives deep into the Canadian comedy industry and exposes just how fragile it is during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite turmoil, The Last Laugh brings to light how resilient and creative Canadian comedians are, and the lengths to which they are prepared to go in order to make people laugh. From online zoom comedy shows, to not so peaceful protests in the park, and even the odd alleyway dumpster show, it seems the future of comedy is in capable hands.
